These days, being fifty-something isn't as old as it used to be.
I know more now than I did fifty years ago.
I've learned a little more about how facts fit together: I think it's called 'wisdom.'
My strength and endurance aren't what they were, but swapping out original-equipment hip joints for new parts helped me move around better than I have in years.
I'm still the same person I was, just a little smarter, a little wiser, and a lot balder.
I wouldn't trade what I have now with the strength and skin problems of youth for anything. -

Age is mental. My body tried to age/break before I was 25, but I found a doc to sew it back together. It tried again in my mid-30s, but I found a different doc to fix that too.
Mentally I've stayed young, just as my 68 year old dad has. (My 68 year old mom has been old for 20 years.) My son is 3 1/2 and says he's getting older now. He's just not old yet though. -

For me being old means getting up at 6:00 am instead of going to sleep then. It means I am the one saying turn off that light if your not in the room. Most of all it reminds me of those talks my father gave me as a teenager and how smart my parents became the first time I had to chose between food and electricity.

Old is a state of mind.
I'm 61 and mentally, I feel like maybe 40 (it took that long to gain much wisdom). Physically, I only feel 61 the day after I've worked as if I was 25.
I love it when I'm with folks much older than I am... and they talk about how "old" some of their friends are... and that generally revolves around not being able to do things for themselves. Or, worse yet... not WANTING to do things for themselves, even though they're quite capable. -
Old? It means I'm closer to death. It means that I'm approaching my ultimate purpose, to make room for all those unborn people ready to further our existence as a species. I feel like it's a privilege, that we are the lucky ones because we get old, because we die. There are so many that never had the chance that we have had.

To age well it is necessary to stay fit and active. Age is a relative thing. I hike regularly with people in their 60's and 70's. They sometimes set the pace and most are in great shape.
All it takes is to be active and eat healthy...... oh, and maybe a little luck!
