All you have to do is answer one little question.

WIIFM?

What's In It For Me?

Why should I visit your blog? A dozen (or more) other people have posted a thread to the shameless blog promotion area today asking me to visit their blogs too.

By and large that's all any of you said. "Visit my blog".

But people aren't going to visit your blog because your mother is proud of you, or because you added more noise to the forum or because you told them to or even because you asked nicely.

You have to give them a reason. Tell them what's in it for them. What will they gain by visiting?

Visit my blog because my mum is ill in hospital.
    1. libdrone
sounds like your family is having a just awful month. my thoughts and prayers are with you
    2. crpitt
I was trying to be humorous i guess i was crap at it, but the mum is in hospital and i appreciate your thoughts
So visiting my blog would cheer me up a bit!
Loved your please go away post on your test blog, i did indeed go away

I just wonder if the shameless 'shameless' promoters ever take in some of the great advice that is offered by some of the really good bloggers here.
    3. DaneMorgan
Cheer you up? That's what's in it for you. You gotta tell em what's in it for them! [TIC]

Sorry to hear about "the mum". Best wishes and speedy recoveries are wished your way.
    4. crpitt
I will raise a pint in their honour when i am out at the pub later and cheering me up will leave them feeling warm and fuzzy or something like that

Thank you, hope you are feeling warm and fuzzy
    5. libdrone
and that brings up another good point. If you trouble to make friends with people here, that may give them an interest in You which by extension may lead them to reading your blog regularly to keep up with you. And for Those readers a simple reminder that you're around or have recently updated may be enough
    6. DaneMorgan
Oh, yeah. Personality can be as much a reason to read a blog as content itself. A lot of people would rather read what they feel isn't quite as good an examination of a topic from a personality they like than a great one from a personality they abhor.

hey ...get your sister to make your num lentils, that'll fix her :-)

Your skeleton on the crapper is hilarious! I smell a greeting card coming.

People would definitely want to visit my blog because I compile the coolest gadgets in the planet. No need to sort through the rubble in most internet sites.

Visit my blog out of curiosity. We all visit blogs out of curiosity and, maybe, 1% of all blogs visited in a day, let's say, it's interesting. How can I convince you my blog is worth your visit? What can I say about it?

I just say what I do, what I write about, and I point to my best resources.
  3. BarbaraGordon
visit my blog because it's got lots of fun Halloween stuff added this month. :-0
    1. DaneMorgan
Costume Ideas? Unique party stuff? Cool Halloween history? Tell us about it!
  4. libdrone
Well, if I wanted you to visit my blog Today, I would tell you that I'm a writer who works in a library and I know about all kinds of interesting books you probably haven't heard of. I'd tell you that my blog has dozens and dozens of great book "presentations" (I don't actually 'review' which would indicate giving a full plot summary and detailed critique of all elements of the book; I present readers with just enough information to give a sense of the book and whether it would interest you). I would be sure to mention that for all books I talk about I provide a link to a special library meta-search engine so that you can find the books in a library. (Not only does borrowing from the library, which your taxes pay for, save you money it also helps the environment by reducing the need for printing new books and saves the paper and other resources producing more books would consume.)

I also link every title to Powell's bookstore in Portland, Oregon so that readers who do want to buy books can do so from an ethical, locally owned source.

I might also mention that I recently reviewed a very interesting book about gun ownership in America. Whether you're a card carrying member of the NRA or a strong supporter of gun control you might be very interested in reading

    blog.libdrone.org/2007/10/guns-friends-and-fears.html

And finally I would add that I have a lively and interesting comments section and that my blog is Do Follow so if you do comment and leave a link, it will be spidered and counted and will help to increase your stats.

That's what I would say. IF I wanted you to visit my blog today
    1. DaneMorgan
      That's what I'm talking about!

      Good Job Alan.
  5. ritubpant
visit my blog because its fun and entertaining ( i think ). Also everytime somebody comments you get a chance to get a link back if you are a top commenter in the next post.

My blog is going through a makeover right now so might wanna wait 3-4 days and everything will be rolling. I will have some nice additions to the site which will give you plenty of reasons to visit my blog, I assure you :-)
    1. DaneMorgan
Since I've seen some of your work I know damn well you can do better than that!
  6. AppleMan
Visit my blog because it has a very cool layout, an organized sidebar, a nice background picture, and killer content that every apple fan should read.

    apple-report.blogspot.com
    1. DaneMorgan
Tell us about the content, AppleMan. If it's killer content about something I'm interested in my visit is worth something to you. If it's exposes about the care and feeding of old guitars, I'll be dissapointed no matter how great the content is, and you'll have missed an opportunity to entice some one who needs to feed and care for their old guitar, but didn't visit because they never knew that's what was there.
    2. AppleMan
Well my blog has apple news, reviews, tips, hardware, software, updates, wallpapers, and more. I write one or two posts every day about useful topics that every mac, ipod, or iphone user should read.
  7. DaneMorgan
You could rely on curiosity. But then you really are subject to that whole 1% thing.

It could be that a more profitable approach would be to offer some sizzle. Tell people about some specific benefits.

    Like some cool Halloween ideas

Or maybe you've recently written an article about something that people have been asking questions about here on the forum recently like, say

"What Are Inbound, Outbound and Cross Links" Learn to tell the difference and use these to make your blog more popular!
    blog.butterflymedia.ro/what-are-inbound-outbound-and-cross-links/
  8. butterflymedia
Hey Dane, if I lie about my blog and present it in the brightest of lights, would you visit it? Would lots of people visit it? I guess so, even if only ONCE. And then you'll lose credibility.

So, how do you know if someone tells the truth about his or her blog? You'll just have to visit the blog. Or not. But then again, what's the point of posting here?

UPDATE: Thanks for your great comments. I've written the post and then I saw yours.
    1. DaneMorgan
When did I ever say lie about your blog?

This is about letting the people who will be likely to be interested know what's there that is interesting.
    2. libdrone
      >>You'll just have to visit the blog.

actually, no I won't. There are a zillion blogs out there and a huge number of them are about things I am NOT interested in. So before I even think of clicking your link I need to have an idea of what I'll find or I will never bother to check it out.

it is NOT a question of making your blog out to be more than it is or lying about your content. it is a question of giving a potential reader enough of an idea of WHAT that content is for them to determine if they are interested. And the burden is 100% on you to give potential readers a reason to click through and read your blog.

Because the fact is, No One has to.
  9. butterflymedia
You didn't. I was playing along. Thanks for the visit and for the advice. We all learn sooner or later.
    1. DaneMorgan
I honestly believe that this approach will find you not only more visitors, but more readers. And THAT's what it's really about.
  10. butterflymedia
Absolutely right. It's the visitor to reader conversion rate which matters the most.
  11. voodooKobra
DON'T visit my website! If you find it on a random Stumble, press the damn button again and save yourself from having to realize how much of a pompous, ignorant jack-ass you (and everyone you know) really are. If you find it in a Google search, skip over it and save yourself the agony of having your sanity ripped out of your skull!

I don't recommend that anyone reads my website because it's not suitable for children (due to harsh language), old people (due to the content), zealots (due to me not buying into their cult), teenagers (due to my hatred of their "style" (or the lack thereof)), couples (due to my criticism of society and dating), hopeless romantics (due to the fact that they should be kicked in the head for being whiny little bastards), politicians (due to the fact that I say what I want, when I want, how I want, and for any damned reason I want), or internet users (due to the lack of txtspk on my website).

What do I offer my visitors? Not a damn thing. I post my opinions in a form that some people apparently find funny, and the traffic rolls in. Some people have told me that I'm a "visionary" and that my rants (as I call my posts) have cause them to realize "how stupid everyone is."

    Two things to consider:
    1. Everyone is stupid. No exceptions.
    2. Everyone likes to think they're an exception.

By continually mocking everyone and everything for being shallow, vain, and utterly, incomprehensibly stupid, a lot of people stick around. Occasionally one of my pages will get a lot of attention from StumbleUpon for a day or two but that always dies off when the trolls reach my page.

(Note: This entire post is meant to be a counterexample to the Visit-Me-ism of this community.)
    1. DaneMorgan
"(Note: This entire post is meant to be a counterexample to the Visit-Me-ism of this community.)"

And yet is one of only two truely promotional posts in this thread at this point.

Another Job Well Done (or not as the case may be )
    2. voodooKobra
Haha yeah. I believe there's something on this in "creative marketing;" but I've yet to ever get dragged along to a marketing class so I don't know. I got this idea from an episode of South Park where Eric Cartman opens an Amusement Park.

EDIT: If anyone is actually interested, my website is www.kobrascorner.com
    3. libdrone
I was gonna write something about your damned site but after seeing the cartoon of the pierced twat I am laughing too hard to write much of anything...
    4. voodooKobra
This will transition to maniacal laughter soon enough.
    5. Rich
Very good Dane. You are spot on.

The first thing we tell our clients is to be less self-focused and more customer-focused. As the old saying goes, nobody is more interested in your product than you are. The trick is to make other people more interested so instead of talking about you, you talk about what you can do for them. These proven concepts work for blogs as well as products.
    6. DaneMorgan
People seem to lose sight of the fact that a blog IS a product in many ways. Often we are using the blogs as vehicles to promote other products, but then when we go to promote the blog we miss that the same rules of effective promotion apply and now the blog itself has become the product.
    7. harleyblues

I like your blog! and the comments on the bottom! hehehe

  12. Majik
The best reason I can give you to visit my blog is to gain a different perspective on a variety of topics. The most recent topic I've posted about is the North American Union, and from what I have read, not very many people have heard of it. I still need to do some more research on the topic and will definitely be posting more of what I learn. Visit and enjoy.

    majik2903.blogspot.com
    1. DaneMorgan
Is there any particular reason that we might want to learn about the North American Union?
    2. Majik
Yes, every article I have read says that it is inevitably coming, and is just a stepping stone towards a world government. If you're not interested thats fine, keep your blinders on, no real need to learn about coming change is there?
    3. DaneMorgan
      Then tell them that.

"One recent topic that should be of particular interest to you is the current attempt to form the North American Union. While you may not have heard of this yet, it is the (first/next/last) step toward establishing a one world government. Get the basics of this (great idea/sinister plot) in my latest blog post, and I'll be sure to keep you up to date with all of the new information coming out on this!"
    4. Majik
Thanks for the feedback, I will definitely include your suggestions in my next post on the topic!
  13. Vishnuap
If I really have to give a convincing, enticing answer to the WIIFM question to get repeat readers, I know I won't be able to because I don't have such an answer.

I guess I must make do with the one time readers who sort of find me by mistake and don't make that mistake again.
    1. DaneMorgan
Look, this may sound harsh. It really isn't intended as harsh, but it also is in a way.

Then why bother? If there is nothing that you feel is worth visiting your blog for, why blog?
    2. Vishnuap
Don't worry. I can handle harsh!

To answer the point you raised, I blog because I see the worth in it for myself. Whether another person would see the worth in it to keep visiting is up to that person to decide. That is not a decision for me to make.

That's why I said I didn't have an answer for the WIIFM question that others might want answered before they come to my blog.
    3. MadameX
This sort of relates to the point I made below. I think there are a lot of people who blog with no particular goals. For thirty years or so I wrote down things that came to my head and I felt like writing and then tossed them in a desk drawer, content to have written them down and with no need to disseminate them further. To a great extent, I use my blogs the same way today. Once in a while I have something I actually want people to hear and think about, but mostly it's just because I have to write it somewhere. I suspect there are a lot of bloggers with similar motivation. Of course, they're probably not the ones posting "visit my blog!" every day, either...
    4. DaneMorgan
Don't think of it as making a decision. Just tell people what the value is in your writing for you. If others find value in something similar, then you have told them WIIFM.
  14. Manictastic
There's nothing in for you, but that's why you should come. Brainless fun, except it's not brainless and probably not fun too.
  15. MadameX
Dane, I think you raise an excellent point, and one that's been raised in the past but always briefly, never with the degree of explanation and feedback that you're offering. Thanks for getting it started and sticking with it.

I see two problems that keep this from working for many bloggers, but they're just exceptions, not any argument against the "rule".

The first is that so very many bloggers who are JUST in it for the money set up blogs without any real intention to provide any benefit to the reader or knowledge of what that means. Thus, they have no answer to this question.

The second is that I think many instinctive writers find themselves in the same boat. I don't know why people read my blogs. The only blog where I consciously think about delivering something to the reader is RockStories, and that's just constant reinforcement of the theme that everyone who says it's impossible to break into writing or that you have to follow rules x, y & z to do it or that you might as well give up and "get a real job" is full of something I can't mention in a family forum. Now, maybe that means people shouldn't bother with them--but I don't know why magazines and websites buy my articles, either, or why people buy my books. I just write stuff down. And people seem to want to read it. I'd have to hire someone to find the answer to your question (and I make my living in MARKETING).
    1. DaneMorgan
"The only blog where I consciously think about delivering something to the reader is RockStories, and that's just constant reinforcement of the theme that everyone who says it's impossible to break into writing or that you have to follow rules x, y & z to do it or that you might as well give up and "get a real job" is full of something I can't mention in a family forum."

That's a great start. Just rephrase it as benefits that will interest those who are in the audience.

Really this boils down to having a clear picture of the purpose of your blog and communicating that in a way that lets people in synch with it know there's something they want to look at.

ie. becoming a successful writer and breaking through despite what common perceptions seem to be.
    2. DaneMorgan
      Try this MadameX,

Take the last article you posted to one of your blogs. It has value to you. Otherwise you wouldn't have written it and posted it to your blog.

Tell me what value you got from writing that article.
    3. antibarbie
You know. I have the same problem. I don't really have an answer to why should someone read my blog. Damned if I know. I write down my personal truths, things that happen to me, things that irk me, my fiction and poetry and people just seem to like it. Perhaps there are a lot of folks who can identify with the things I write about. Other than that, I have no clue but I do get a whole lot of return visitors, so there has to be something that keeps them coming back.
    4. MadameX
Dane, I get your point and I don't disagree with anything you've said from the standpoint of someone who wants to promote a blog. I guess my downfall is just that I frankly don't care whether people read my blogs or not. I manage content for a ridiculously successful Internet marketing company, and everything you've said is dead-on from a marketing perspective. I was just trying to make the point that there are a lot of people who blog for personal reasons that aren't necessarily thinking about what's in it for someone else, and that's fine so long as they don't have goals that require driving a lot of new traffic.
    5. libdrone
      Dawn,

AntiBarbie.net is a personal blog with a distinct and distinctly dark world view. Topics as diverse as body image issues and Google's latest high tech hi jinks are discussed with wit, humor and goodly measure of Attitude. An active and lively comments section allows visitors to discuss the issues raised and aspiring bloggers will be pleased to learn that AntiBarbie is a Do Follow blog, so commenters get a little link love for sharing their perspectives.

      Tiffany,

I really do believe you that you don't give a fig about promoting your blogs. But participating in a discussion about blog promotion strategies, tends to have that effect, even if unintended, no?
    6. MadameX
Honestly, Libdrone, I'd expect that to be the last place to accomplish any meaningful promotion. It's a place everyone comes thinking about how to advance his or her own blog and not out of interest in finding other blogs. And, of course, the more blogs that get listed and discussed in a thread, the less likely it is that anyone is going to actually click through to any particular blog--especially when links aren't listing and it requires going through the profile to get there.

For someone who really wanted to promote a blog in a place like this, Dane is dead-on. A shameless promotion thread with enough information to hook someone and make them want to read further--and the added advantage of not getting lost in a long thread of other blogs and descriptions--is probably one of the two most effective things a person could do. The other is to engage in intelligent discussion related to the content of his/her blogs and to reference those blogs when relevant to the discussion.

To circle back around to the effectiveness (indeed, necessity) of what Dane propooses...imagine a world of television and newspaper advertisements that said simply, "Visit our store!"

Wouldn't you want to know what they were selling before choosing which ones to visit?
    7. antibarbie
Thanks Alan, who do I contact to get you on my PR team? hehehe
    8. DaneMorgan
"I was just trying to make the point that there are a lot of people who blog for personal reasons that aren't necessarily thinking about what's in it for someone else, and that's fine so long as they don't have goals that require driving a lot of new traffic."

Ahhh... Got Ya! Sorry. I missed that point before (bad me) LOL.

Yeah. Definitely. And no problem with that at all. They don't typically post "come visit my blog" either.

HR3835 is a bill in the US House of Representatives introduced by Presidential candidate Ron Paul "to restore the Constitution's checks and balances and protections against government abuses as envisioned by the Founding Fathers."

Be specific. step by step instructions on how you've done what? And if I follow those instructions do I have a high likelihood of repeating your success? What will I have at the end of the process?

I get your point, its strange putting my blog to you as I know you know your wordpress stuff. Ive altered it slightly.

heh, I read a LOT of blogs about WordPress written by people who probably don't "know their WordPress stuff" as well as I. They often have fresh insights into things that end up teaching me something that people who know it better than me could never have taught me.

That said, that's a much better go because it targets people who may not know as much as you and will want to learn what you've learned and thus are exactly who you want visiting!.

      Good Job!
    4. crkian
Thanks very much, a compliment is worth a thousand comments or visitors
  18. mikeny07
But don't forget. You get a reward if you visit a blog and leave a comment. Everyone else that goes on the blog and comments will see your post. It is free exposure.

Don't think nobody clicks on names in the comments section? They do for the interesting post that have a picture next to them. They catch my eye. Of course I only read comments when I post one. But they stay on forever. It is free traffic as small as it may be.
    1. DaneMorgan
Buyt there are countless blogs that I can leave comments on. Why should I visit your blog to see if there's anything I want to comment on?

Not enough. Tell me why I might be interested in this "graphical IQ test" what are it's advantages to me over a normal IQ test, what will I gain by reading this post?
    2. robinsonjoel
Well, graphical IQ test are more likely to be checked, than the normal one's. In fact, majority of them shun away normal IQ test since it will be the same old question.

  20. kocher
shouldn't the content be reason enough?
    1. DaneMorgan
If the content is good and if it's something you are interested in that's a reason to return. But why should anyone visit in the first place if all you've done is say "visit my blog"?
  21. mikeny07
The great thing also is if a blog has no comments and yours is the only one. Most blog owners check your profile out then. You can get lots more people this way. They may add you to blogcatalog or the other sites if they like your stuff.
  22. mikeny07
    I like this game!
  23. suburbqueen
There are plenty of reasons to visit my blog as there is something there for pretty much everyone. I have posts about life and love that usually end in thought-provoking questions which usually lead to great comments from readers. I offer humor in the form of "In Tens" ( a list of ten random, yet funny things). I have unique posts that play on words such as my post "Pit Puddles" where I used deodorant names to complain about my distaste for deodorant without the antiperspirant. I also have a weekly series entitled "Rules of Fabulousness" that is all about challenging us to be better people. If you don't find something on my blog that interests you, you just haven't looked around enough

    suburbqueen.blogspot.com/

    How was that?
    1. libdrone
got me back for my second visit of the day
    2. DaneMorgan
Good. But consider focusing this into two or three separate messages. One for people who like thought provoking articles on love and life and at least one other for the more entertaining, fun posts. Address each audience individually. And tell it like you were telling a friend about the post you just know they would love.

"What's in it for you?" is actually part of the title of my blog. I get a lot of questions about what I do at home, so I aim my blog at people who are interested in what I do for a living, people who are looking for a way to work at home.

For anyone else, there really isn't much reason to visit my blog unless you're bored out of your mind and looking for something to click on. LOL

What kind of story is this? Is there a moral or other lesson for me to learn from it? Is it great entertainment? Would my kids love it? Tell me what the benefits of reading the story are for me.
  28. mikeny07
I did it! I solved it! It took about 15 min or so though.
    1. mikeny07
They all shook their hands up! Cool test. I pass.
    2. DaneMorgan
I'm really just not sure what you're on about...

Well everyone has their point to prove, may be all are correct. Keep blogging. Now about my blogs, if you will go through my blogs you will find that, they are for the issues of common persons i.e. for the society. What we are doing in our society, that kind of issue has been raised by me. And I am glade that I am getting good people to read them and their comments too. It gives me satisfaction to spread something good in our society. Just visit and tell if anything wrong in it.

What society? What issues? How will the knowledge or understanding about this societies issues posted at your blog make me and my place in my society better?

People would want to visit my blog because there is actually something in it for them. The subject of my blog is mainly background checks and investigations. Just about everyone at some point or another is going to be looking for a job and it would serve them well to be educated on the subject. Before you go through the employment screening process it is a good idea to learn as much as possible about it. My blog not only educates the employers, but also the applicants. There are numerous questions that can be answered by conducting just a bit of research, my blog provides that avenue.

I also provide resources to those people looking to conduct background checks, mainly for free! Would you like to know how to conduct a completely free, legal criminal record check on your creepy neighbor? I can teach you how! Is condcuting background checks on ordinary citizens legal? Come visit my blog and find out. Is the super special secret agent net investigator software worth the price? Probably not, but you can find out for sure on my site.

Good Job. Especially the second paragraph.

The first leaves some questions you might want to focus in on. How will this knowledge actually help me get that job or help me fire the right employee?
    2. crimcheck
Thanks Dane! I will keep that in mind.
  31. azliyana
because ive been visit your blog just now..is it right?..hohoh
    1. DaneMorgan
I'm sorry, but that's probably one of the last reasons I'm going to visit your blog for.
  32. urikalish
If you want to: 1. See the funniest movies and pictures on the internet 2. Learn more about SEO and making money online 3. Read my rants and poems - This blog is NOT for you!

...but if you're slightly interested in computers, biology, philosophy, mythology, physics, math or science fiction - you might wanna check out
    urikalish.blogspot.com/
    1. DaneMorgan
That's a valid and useful strategy. But again break the message down. I'm interested in Sci-fi and Computers. Tell me a little about your coverage of those topics that make your blog a place I really need to visit!
  33. Rich
    Very funny Urikalish,

I was writing the same thing! Don't visit my blog. There is nothing in it for you.
    1. DaneMorgan
Heh, You'd better provide an example.
    2. Rich
Are you talking me? Are you, punk?

Just kidding Dane. Why would you want to visit my blog? Because one day my blog might be about you ... I write about the good, bad, and ugly of communication, especially social media: single post stories like the guy who landed Letterman because of a YouTube video and challenges to self-proclaimed A-list bloggers to living case studies in play like Jericho and Veronica Mars fan campaigns, the decline of Bud TV, the disingenuous of CEO John Mackey, and the atrocity of Crandell Canyon Mines crisis (with more on that this week). It's a mixed bag, sometimes serious sometimes not, but you might learn something along the way anyway.
  34. MeghnaK
This thread is very interesting to follow!
But please do not visit my blog as i do not have the courage to convince you
    Thank you.
    1. DaneMorgan
      Fake it.

If you don't tell me why I should visit your blog, I won't. If you do, I might, and if I still don't there's no difference.
    2. MeghnaK
      Agreed. Here it goes....

Suppose I say my blog has lot of tragic stories, humorous poems and some bizarre posts, I doubt whether you will be interested to read them.

You can try if you still want to read them. Or you can ask what the stories and posts are about, which I can explain in detail too.
    3. DaneMorgan
Do the stories, poems and bizarreness lead to anything?

Take your last post. It had value to YOU, or you would not have posted it. Tell me why you chose to post that. What about that post made it something you wanted to share on your blog?
    4. MeghnaK
See, I write stories, poems and the like which are humorous and you can laugh it out if you like it. If not, you can pity me and even laugh at that. I also write stories which are tragic or horror filled. You may look at them if you are brave enough to read a story by a small girl who has recently started writing. You may even learn something on how not to write by reading my blog. It is up to you (or the reader) how to take it
  35. monkeytale
Every time I start a "shameless promotion" category thread I try to provide a reason, or an enticement for a visit. Too many people overlook the fact that a lot of threads are started here with a "just visit me" mantra... which doesn't work that well for most people.
    1. DaneMorgan
I've seen your promotions, and you do a good job. I'm not really a humor blog reader myself and you've hauled me in to read your blog a couple times and even elicited a comment once.
  36. happymomiam
Want something to enhance your spirit and feel welcome visit my blogs. You can find lots of interesting content of a blog like quotes, nice stories, encouraging words for the soul and other content. If you want to visit you are very welcome. Thanks everyone.
    1. DaneMorgan
Try to avoid statements that include "the content". Yes it is content, but when we are trying to entice readers that shouldn't be the focus.

Tell me about "quotes that will ...", "nice stories of ... and ... that will help you realize ...", "encouraging words for ... souls" how these encouraging words will impact/lift/strengthen/fortify/release/uplift/inspire my spirit/soul. How will I feel (differently?) when my soul is treated to this?
  37. Iwillberichsoon
    I love philosophy, too.
  38. urikalish
    Take 2...

Visit by blog 'cause I'm the only armadillo with a blog!

I'm currently renting a burrow somewhere, and a few days ago I found this half-broken semi-operational laptop on a ditch near the highway.
I'm interested in your history 'cause I wanna prove that armadillos played a crucial part in every significant event in human history.

    p.s.
    My fellow armadillos on BlogCatalog,
Did you know these ridiculous humans believe this world is not flat???!!! LOL.
  39. tiddlytwinks
    Hi Dane,

"Telling It Like It Is" is straight-forward talk, no "b.s.", with topics about:

*Abuse:, affects on sufferers and how to move on in life, despite the history of abuse-(Child Abuse, Spousal Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Abuse of Elderly, Religious Abuse).

*Relationships: Discussion and Tips on Dating, marriage, divorce, blended families (ugh), properly caring for our elderly parents, parenting tips (I survived 6 kids, whew!), how not to lose your sanity with Teenagers in the house, How To be a True Friend!, dealing with death and grief, etc.

*Religion: Discussion, from personal experience, on religious authoritarianism, mind control and cults.

*Writing Tips: I also provide helpful tips on improving writing skills, some from personal trial and error.

Based on stats reports I've received over the last few months, especially yesterday, I'd have to say I'm doing pretty darn good so far. My visitors and subscribers have tripled in less than a week. I must be doing something right.
    1. DaneMorgan
      That's good, tiddlytwinks.

Try rephrasing exactly what you said here, but instead of saying "I provide" say "you'll learn" or "You'll be".

Instead of just listing the topics, tell me how I'll grow/learn/improve from reading about these topics at your blog.

You have the right stuff, there. Just need to shift the focus from your perspective to your reader's perspective.
  40. libdrone
    MadameX,

I do see your point. BUT. I, personally have visited about a dozen blogs that have been discussed in this thread, some blogs I had visited previously and forgotten about and others that I heard of for the first time here. I can't honestly say that I visited your blog from this thread, yet it seems possible to me that I might have.

(posting to margin since the indents have advanced to the screwy point)
  41. coeli
My blog: Poopsies - Toys, Anime, Manga, Video Games, etc.

    coeliandjeff.blogspot.com

    Thanks!
    1. libdrone
      excrement, cartoons and pac man?!?!?

      think I'll pass
    2. DaneMorgan
Wow. You made it all the way down here without reading a single word.

A great reason NOT to visit a blog is when the request is made of a community to which you show no outward sign of respecting.
    3. monkeytale
That's the problem with most people. They're so intent on getting exposure they don't take the time to plan a well thought message to create some interest/intrigue in their effort/desire to get traffic. Since you started this thread 3 other shameless promotion threads have been started with next to nothing being said, other than come visit me. (Although I think SPP has deleted a couple of them.)
    4. suburbqueen
It's hard for me to say something about them mikster because I'm pretty sure I did something similar when I first joined BC...but to do it in a thread that already states not to...that's just wrong
  42. harleyblues
    right-ooo mister lol
  43. bnsullivan
Let me tell you a little story about my recent experience with the issue of positioning a blog (to borrow a term from Marketing 101). I'm a niche blogger. The 'old hands' here at BC know me as the person with those very niche-y aviation news blogs -- mostly of interest only to people who fly for a living (and most of those folks are not bloggers).
